Standards: AAC
Standards: Tie Wire
AAC stands for all-aluminum conductor. It refers to a bare conductor made entirely of aluminum strands without a steel reinforcing core.
AAC is commonly used where electrical conductivity, low weight, and corrosion resistance are important, especially in overhead distribution, substation, switchyard, and utility applications.
AAC cable is used for overhead distribution, overhead transmission, substation bus connections, switchyard bus connections, grounding applications, and some mechanical applications.
It is often selected for shorter-span overhead lines or applications where a steel-reinforced conductor is not required.
AAC is made entirely of aluminum. ACSR uses aluminum conductor strands around a steel reinforcing core.
AAC is typically chosen when lightweight conductivity and corrosion resistance are priorities. ACSR is often chosen when additional tensile strength is needed for longer spans, higher tension, or overhead line designs where sag control is important.
Aluminum tie wire is used in overhead line construction to secure conductors to insulators and other line hardware. It is commonly used where compatible aluminum wire is needed for utility, distribution, grounding, or mechanical applications.
The correct tie wire depends on the conductor, hardware, installation method, and project specification.
To choose the right AAC conductor, start with the project specification and line design requirements. Important details include AWG or MCM size, code name, strand class, nominal diameter, cross-sectional area, rated strength, DC resistance, weight, span length, and installation environment.
For quote requests, it helps to provide the code name or size, quantity, required footage, strand class, and any utility or engineering specification.
