Yes. Larger-gauge speaker cable can reduce resistance and help limit signal loss over longer cable runs.
In American Wire Gauge sizing, a lower AWG number means a larger conductor. As the distance between the amplifier and speaker increases, conductor resistance becomes more important. Moving from a smaller conductor such as 18 AWG to a larger size such as 14, 12, 10, or 8 AWG can help reduce voltage drop and power loss, especially with lower-impedance speakers or higher-power systems. The appropriate size should be based on run length, speaker impedance, amplifier output, and installation requirements rather than assuming the largest conductor is always necessary.
Low resistance helps more of the amplifier's output reach the speaker instead of being lost as heat in the cable.
Every conductor introduces some resistance into the circuit. Excessive cable resistance can reduce the power delivered to the speaker and may affect system performance, particularly on long runs or higher-power installations. This cable family uses stranded oxygen-free bare copper and is offered in multiple conductor sizes so the cable can be matched more closely to the electrical demands of the installation.
Unshielded speaker cable is commonly suitable for amplifier-to-speaker connections because speaker-level signals are generally less sensitive to interference than low-level audio signals.
Speaker circuits carry relatively high-level signals compared with microphone, instrument, or line-level audio wiring. For that reason, shielding is not always necessary for conventional speaker runs. Cable routing still matters, however. Long parallel runs next to certain power conductors or electrically noisy equipment can create installation concerns, so pathway design should be considered along with the cable construction.
Oxygen-free copper is valued for its high conductivity and consistent conductor quality, but cable size and total resistance usually have a greater practical effect on speaker-cable performance.
The conductors in this cable are stranded oxygen-free bare copper. Oxygen-free copper is commonly used in audio cable because it provides strong electrical conductivity and good manufacturing consistency. In an actual speaker installation, however, conductor gauge, run length, speaker impedance, termination quality, and overall circuit resistance are usually more important than focusing on copper purity alone.
Speaker cable should be sized according to amplifier power, speaker impedance, cable length, and acceptable resistance rather than wattage alone.
A high-power system does not automatically require the largest available cable, but longer runs and lower-impedance speaker loads can make conductor resistance much more significant. Larger conductors can help keep resistance low, but they also increase cable diameter, weight, and installation space.
