Multi Paired Individually Foil Shield Computer Cable

Multi-paired individually foil shield computer cable is designed for signal and control applications where multiple circuits need to operate within one cable while maintaining a higher level of separation between pairs. Shielding each pair individually helps limit interference not only from outside electrical noise, but also from adjacent signal pairs within the same cable. Custom Cable Corp. supplies individually shielded multi-pair computer cable for industrial automation, electronic equipment and data applications where signal integrity, low capacitance and circuit isolation are important.

Frequently Asked Questions

Individually shielded pairs provide greater isolation between separate signal circuits.

With an overall shield, all conductor pairs share the same shielding layer. Individually shielding each pair helps reduce crosstalk between circuits while also protecting each pair from external electrical interference. This can be especially useful when multiple sensitive signals are carried together within one cable.

Each foil shield creates a barrier between neighboring signal pairs.

When multiple signals travel through the same cable, electromagnetic energy from one pair can interfere with another. By surrounding each pair with its own foil shield, the cable can better isolate those circuits and reduce unwanted interaction between signals, which helps maintain signal quality in sensitive applications.

Low-capacitance cable is useful when signal timing and transmission quality need to remain consistent over longer runs.

Higher capacitance can affect how quickly a signal changes and may distort certain data or control signals. Low-capacitance construction helps reduce this effect, making it useful in electronic communication, industrial control and other applications where signal integrity is important.

The drain wire provides a convenient electrical connection to the foil shield.

Foil itself can be difficult to terminate directly. A dedicated drain wire stays in contact with the shield and allows installers to connect the shielding system to ground or another termination point as required by the equipment design. Having a drain wire for each pair also helps maintain the independence of the individual shields.

Consider the number of signal circuits, the sensitivity of those signals and the amount of electrical noise in the installation environment.

Applications with multiple low-level signals, long cable runs, nearby power equipment or strict signal-quality requirements may benefit from individually shielded pairs. Reviewing the equipment specification, communication protocol and expected electrical environment can help determine whether this construction is preferable to a standard multi-pair cable with only an overall shield.
