Applications:
UL Style 1429 is rated 150V at 80°C, while UL Style 1430 is rated 300V at 105°C.
The two styles belong to the same irradiated PVC product family but have different electrical and temperature ratings. Style 1430 also uses a thicker nominal insulation wall than Style 1429 in the Custom Cable Corp. product range. Selection should be based on the required UL style, operating voltage, temperature conditions, conductor size, and equipment specification rather than treating the two styles as interchangeable.
The thicker insulation helps support the higher voltage and temperature requirements associated with the Style 1430 construction.
Custom Cable Corp. lists a nominal insulation thickness of 0.010 inch for Style 1429 and 0.016 inch for Style 1430. That difference affects finished wire diameter as well as the construction's electrical characteristics. Where wiring space is limited, the larger outside diameter of Style 1430 should be considered along with its higher 300V and 105°C ratings.
VW-1 indicates that the wire has passed a recognized vertical flame test used to evaluate flame propagation.
The VW-1 rating describes how the insulated wire performs under specified flame-test conditions. It does not mean that the wire is fireproof or appropriate for every fire-rated installation. Instead, it provides a standardized indication of flame resistance that can be relevant when selecting internal wiring for electrical and electronic equipment.
Solder-iron resistance helps the insulation withstand brief exposure to heat during termination and assembly work.
Internal equipment wiring may be installed close to terminals or components that are soldered during manufacturing or repair. Irradiated PVC is designed to provide better resistance to this localized heat than some conventional PVC constructions. That can help reduce the risk of insulation damage during normal assembly processes, although proper soldering technique and temperature control are still required.
Smaller sizes typically use 7-strand constructions, while larger sizes may use more strands to maintain flexibility as conductor diameter increases.
For example, Custom Cable Corp. lists several smaller stranded Style 1429 and 1430 sizes using seven strands, while 16 AWG uses a 19-strand construction. Increasing the number of strands can help preserve flexibility as the conductor becomes larger. When routing space, repeated bends during assembly, or termination requirements matter, the strand construction should be reviewed along with AWG size and outside diameter.
